Workshop

Tamarkoz® (Sufi Meditation): a heart-focused journey within

  • Spiritual practices have been used in psychological therapies for many years. Meditations, visualizations, and relaxation exercises that have a basis in various spiritual theories are used in a number of modalities including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and various Humanistic approaches. Most of these practices have roots in Eastern religions such as Buddhism. However, there are some practices of Islamic Sufism that are currently being used by some practitioners. In the last 50 years, Tamarkoz® a heart-focused Sufi meditative practice that is unique to the M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® has been taught by psychologist around the globe. Workshops, retreats, and even semester long courses at U.C. Berkeley are being taught on this practice. Very little is known about Tamarkoz®, which is being shown to reduce stress, increase positive emotions, and increase spirituality with its participants. This workshop will allow you to experience Tamarkoz®, learn about the benefits, and understand the difference between it and other meditative practices. Please wear socks and comfortable clothes as this workshop contains meditative postures and movement.
